Timber block parquetry floors date back to 17th Century France and recently images of herringbone and chevron patterns have been taking over newsfeeds on Pinterst and Instagram. The saying “what goes around, comes around”, rings very true in interior design. When a style “comes around” again, it is usually done so with a contemporary twist. In relation to herringbone/chevron floors, this twist is made evident through the larger scale dimensions of timber block used. Yet like their traditional counterparts, their impeccable proportions enable them to be laid in both single and double herringbone patterns. The length is exactly five times the width.
Laying parquetry floors can be more labour intensive (which means more $$$) then a normal timber floating floor, but they do have a lot of benefits. They are known to be stable in changes of humidity as well as being durable and long lasting, not to mention the huge variety of colours, textures and patterns available.
